Natural rubber

Acrylate rubber

Hydrogenated nitrile rubber

This special hydrogenation process reduces many of the double bonds on the main chain of NBR polymer. Therefore, in addition to retaining the characteristics of the original NBR, hydrogenated NBR has a higher degree of heat resistance, ozone aging resistance, heat resistance, chemical resistance, and mechanical properties than NBR.

Like NBR, an increase in acrylonitrile (ACN) content increases resistance to petroleum-based oils and fuels but decreases its low-temperature performance. The acrylonitrile content usually ranges from 18% to 50%. Hydrogenated NBR fills the gap between NBR and fluoroelastomers in many applications.

While fluoroelastomers have proven to have excellent resistance to crude oil and process oils, test results have also shown that they deteriorate rapidly when placed in modern oil wells containing small amounts of amine corrosion inhibitors, and have therefore been replaced by hydrogenated NBRs.
